Program

The program will contain many exciting presentations about new developments. Also the London and Simon Prize winners will give a presentation. Subjects range from graphene, superconducting qubits, quantum oscillations in HTC's, ultra-cold atoms in optical traps, quantum turbulence, time-reversal-symmetry breaking in nonconventional superconductors and optical cooling of mechanical cantilevers to the recently discovered Fe-As superconductors.

Public Lectures

Thursday night from 20.15 h there will be two public lectures in the RAI Auditorium. Also all conference participants are invited and have free access. (Sponsored by Linde Kryotechnik AG). See the Thursday Program.

Evening Sessions

18:15 Special evening romp session on the new superconducting oxypnictides
This evening session is being organized by Laura Greene and Setsuko Tajima. The first two speakers are arranged; other scientists who like to share shortly their newest results and ideas should contact the chairpersons.
18:15 Evening session on “World Helium Supply and Technological Solutions”
In this evening session the helium issue will be addressed. There will be two introductions of about half an hour followed by a discussion. The first presentation is given by Dan Baciu from Linde and will be about helium and its applications, players in the helium business and market shares, worldwide demand and growth forecast, worldwide supply and new sourcing projects, and long term helium S/D forecast.
The second presentation will be given by Ray Radebaugh and will be about the possible impact on the helium demand of the new technology of having dry systems (dry magnets, dry dilution refrigerators, etc.) cooled with cryocoolers. This talk will discuss the current status and future trends of cryocoolers. Examples will be shown to illustrate how various experiments have been adapted to use cryocoolers to eliminate or reduce the need for helium.

Conference Dinner (Note: The dinner is fully booked)

The conference dinner will be organized on Monday, 11 August from 19:30 to 22:30 h at Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, located on the east side of the Dam Square in the old center of Amsterdam. The 3-course dinner, culminating in a grand dessert, will be served in the Winter Garden and the adjacent Grand Ballroom and Volmer Rooms. The Winter Garden is a historical monument with a stained glass roof dating back to 1879.

Krasnapolsky does not only provide an excellent ambience for our conference dinner, it also has an excellent reputation for hosting large banquets while retaining the high quality cuisine they are known for.

Thanks to a special arrangement of the City of Amsterdam the transportation from the RAI to Krasnapolsky will be by sight-seeing boats. We will sail over the Amstel river, and through some of the famous canals of Amsterdam. More information about entertainment during the banquet will be posted later.

Please register in time, preferably when you register for the conference, since the number of seats is limited; the all-in price is € 60 per person.

Dress code is informal.
